Suboxone®
About Suboxone®
Suboxone® is a medication that contains two active ingredients: buprenorphine and naloxone. Buprenorphine is an opiate medication used to treat dependence on opioids, helping to reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms. Naloxone is added to Suboxone® to deter abuse. If someone attempts to misuse Suboxone® by injecting it to achieve a high, the naloxone will block the effects of the buprenorphine, leading to immediate withdrawal symptoms.
It's important to note that only buprenorphine is absorbed into the body when Suboxone® is taken as directed. The medication is designed to be dissolved under the tongue, where buprenorphine is absorbed into the bloodstream. If Suboxone® is swallowed, it will not provide any benefit as buprenorphine is not absorbed through the digestive system.
At Freedom Recovery Center, we emphasize the importance of taking Suboxone® as prescribed to achieve the best results in your recovery journey. Our healthcare professionals are here to guide you through the process and ensure that you understand how to use Suboxone® safely and effectively.
