Zubsolv®
About Zubsolv®
Zubsolv is intended for use in combination with other forms of treatment, such as behavioral therapy or counseling.
Zubsolv contains two active drugs: buprenorphine and naloxone. It comes in the form of a sublingual tablet, meant to be dissolved under the tongue. Similar to Suboxone, Zubsolv was approved by the FDA for its efficacy in providing similar blood levels of buprenorphine. The combination of buprenorphine and naloxone is recommended as an effective treatment option in current treatment guidelines.
Buprenorphine acts as a partial agonist at the mu-opioid receptor, providing typical opioid agonist effects with a ceiling effect. It helps prevent withdrawal symptoms and reduce cravings, while also reducing the pleasurable effects of other opioids. Naloxone, on the other hand, serves as an abuse deterrent by reversing the effects of opioids already bound to the receptors. While naloxone's activity is primarily seen when administered parenterally, its role in Zubsolv is to deter abuse.
Clinical studies have shown Zubsolv to be effective in treating opioid dependence, with a high percentage of patients still in treatment by the third day.
